Analysis
The Dutch became rich off of Batavia because the city became the center of the VOC's Asian trading network. The East Indian Company had monopolies over nutmeg, black pepper, cloves and cinnamon. The city also had many cash crops such as coffee, tea, cacao, tobacco, rubber, and sugar from other places, further making the city more valuable. Since it was the center, it had many resources and people from different places, which helps with the development of technology because they could trade knowledge and crops.
